Taylor Swift, an American country pop female singer, has often used intertextual reference in her songs. “Love Story” was released in 2008, with a reference to “Romeo and Juliet”, a play that Shakespeare created in 1597. Therefore portrayed a love story that has been aganisted and disagreed by parents. Except names of the two characters have been used to represent the love story, there are other references with “Romeo and Juliet”. Lovers sneak out and meet up at night, and be against their parents. The only difference is that the “Love Story” that Taylor Swift sang has an ending of living happily ever after, and the real play has an ending of both characters dying.
