‘Man Like That’

Man like that

An old fashion style colour palette with low saturation is used in the music video of Gin Wigmore‘s “Man Like That”, to represent vintage and as the music video was made 10 years ago. People who appeared in the music video were all wearing clothes from the 20 century with an American cowboy style, with white shirts and cowboy hats. The location also represents the American cowboy style as it was set in an old fashion bar with old bottles of beers. Only Gin Wigmore, the artist, had revealed a different costume with the others, she was wearing a fancy shiny vintage black party dress that seems like a trend in the 1950s. Gin Wigmore is the only blond person in the music video, therefore it made her easier to grab the audience's attention as her colours were represented brighter than the others. The makeup of the characters that appeared in the music video are all made up with smoky eyeshadows. Therefore rock, indie and folk genres have been represented through the music video.

This music video is a performance video, the characters’ movements were all following the rhythms and the beats, with the drump, the stepping of heels, the movement of dance of Gin Wigmore, etc.

A lot of close up shots were used to reveal the details of the small movement people did to match up with the beats. Long shots were used to mention the dance moves of the whole body, and extreme close shots were used to represent the makeup and the facial expressions.

Zoom in camera was used often therefore the emotion has transferred to the audience by the movement and the facial expressions of the artist.

Jump cuts were used often to match up with the strong rhythms and the fast speed of the beat.

Two locations were represented in the music video. One is in the bar, with everyone dancing around and enjoying the vibe. Another one is in a room of a couple, Gin Wigmore is sitting in the middle of their bed. This location represents a meaning that links to the lyric of the scene. As the end part of the music video Gin Wigmore was dancing in both of the locations, the meaning is already transferred through the vibe and the dance.
